The inaugural Islamic Finance Services Conference was jointly organised by the Gulf-Asia Shari'ah Compliant Investments Association (GASCIA), the Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SMCCI) and the Singapore Business Federation (SBF). The event was the brainchild of the Malaysia Singapore Business Council (MSBC), the only official Government-to-Government platform for trade collaboration between Singapore and Malaysia, under which both countries agreed to explore collaboration in the field of Islamic Finance.

The conference attracted over 300 attendees from more than 150 organisations, from industries and sectors eager to explore the potential of Islamic Banking and Finance. They included government officials, industry professionals from the financial and supporting professions, entrepreneurs exploring alternative funding sources, as well as Shari'ah Scholars.

The topics presented at the conference, ranged from the macro perspective, looking at current gaps and opportunities in the existing Islamic Finance eco-system to specialised areas of Shari'ah compliance and structuring & selling of Islamic Finance products.

Highlights from their discussion include: how Singapore, as a global financial hub, and Malaysia, a global leader in Islamic Finance, could work together to complement each other's strengths and expand the demand for Islamic Finance products & services.

The event was graced by Guest-of-Honour, Mr. Zainul Abidin Rasheed, Singapore Ambassador to Kuwait and Advisor to GASCIA. Media coverage of the event included interviews and news reports by Channel News Asia and the Berita Harian.
